Gigi Hill Direct Selling Handbags Company Closed Down

Gigi Hill, handbags and accessories direct selling company, was founded in Yorba Linda, CA in 2010 by two women. The company started out with great promise with several millions in funding and grew to 700+ stylists according to some online sources. I’ve met several Gigi Hill stylists and have seen their products in person. They are really cute and quality items.

When you’re in the direct selling business, it’s common to hear of companies launching and news of companies going out of business too. It’s the nature of business and can happen in any industry.

As independent consultants, you never know what really goes on behind closed doors. On the surface, it often looks fine. In Gigi Hill’s case, it was sudden and no doubt a major heartbreak for consultants and loyal customers.

I just checked the corporate website and it has an error message. Surprised that there isn’t a message to say “we’re closing down” or anything like that.  On their Facebook page you couldn’t tell there were any signs of trouble.

This is a copy of an email from the founders of Gigi Hill sent to consultants. It was posted on WAHM Forum under the topic of Gigi Hill closing …

I received the below email in the middle of the night. I checked and they even shut down their websites. They did not even give their reps a chance to give customers a heads up, etc…

Email from Gigi Hill (received at 2:55 am):

Dear Gigi Hill,

It is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision to close Gigi Hill. We love each of you so dearly, and this company so dearly, and it is by far the hardest thing we have ever had to do in our lives.

In January of 2013 our bank credit line was pulled. Due to this, we sought additional capital and we were in “due diligence” with 2 separate firms to be acquired. We have spent countless hours with these firms trying to reach a deal. The acquisition would have allowed us the needed cash flow that is a necessity in every business. We are so sad to report that no deal was reached. When our credit line was pulled, it made operating for growth extremely hard. It is for this reason Gigi Hill will be closing.

We know you will have so many questions, and we are going to do our best to answer them.

We love you all so much. We have had so much fun laughing together, crying together, and sharing our hearts. We have felt your love every day and you are what has made Gigi Hill the great experience it has been and we hope you will take a piece of us with you as you move forward and continue your journey.

Thank you each and every one of you. We hope you know our intentions have always been honorable, truthful, and that we fought so very, very hard to keep us all together. In the end, this is where we are and as you move on to your next journey we wish you nothing but happiness and that you will be successful in all you do.

Thank you again for everything, it has been a wonderful ride and we hope our paths will cross again.

XOXO

Gabrielle & Monica

If you’re a Gigi Hill stylist, I wish you the very best in your next venture, if you decide to choose a new direct selling home. From their Facebook page, it sounds like the founders were loved and the messages very positive from customers and stylists. Sounds like a great company to have been a part of.

As a direct seller myself, it sucks to hear another company closing down, because we all want our industry to thrive. I love this business I’m in and no matter how many times I hear companies closing down, I still think it’s the best home-based business opportunity for so  many people. A business that offers so much potential, flexibility, friendship, for such little investment.

Best,

Janette

Yes but it looks like Gigi Hill reps are moving on to another handbag company. I’m sure they will find something else but it’s always sad when a company closes.

  2. Hello fellow consultant
I am so sorry to hear about Gigi Hill closing. I know that you must have loved the product and were a wonderful consultant.
Since they so abruptly closed it may not have given you time to prepare for the many changes it brought you.
I would like to offer some help.
I am with Cookie Lee Jewelry and our philosophy is basically the same as Gigi Hill.
We do office, home and catalog shows. We provide beautiful jewelry at an affordable price and we help you earn an amazing income.
We make 50% -59% profit. I do not know how much Gigi Hill offered.
Cookie Lee Jewelry has been around for over 21 years and has a proven track record of excellence. We are well compensated along with bonuses, trips (this year Cookie is taking us to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. All expenses paid for by Cookie and John) and promotions.
I would love to talk to you about joining our AWESOME team. Please contact me for more information.
Here is a special that is only for the month of August.
You can start your business or either $99 or $560. For $560 you receive $1000 in retail jewelry. Sell that and you have gotten back your starting investment. I have earned what is called a Golden Ticket which allows me to give it to a new sign up. It is worth $1100 in retail jewelry.
So for $560 you will be receiving $2100 in retail jewelry. What an easy way to get your new business started. We can also do a “decider” show where you can earn the money for signing up.
I know you may have questions about this but please feel free to contact me.
If this is not for you I would also love for you to pass this on to every Gigi Hill consultant you know. I always pay for referrals.
Thank you for your time and I do hope to be able to talk to you and help your start a new venture.
    Sincerely,
    Janina Robertson
